Yes acceleration can be negetive. As acceleration is a vector it can be negetive.
when the acceleration is opposite to the motion it is said to be negetive acceleration.
It is termed as deceleration.
Eg. when we throw an object upwards against the gravitational force then the acceleration due to gravity is taken to be negetive as it opposes the motion of the body.
