Yes acceleration can be negetive. As acceleration is a vector quantity it can be negetive, positive or zero.
When the acceleration is against the motion it is negetive.
Negetive acceleration is termed as deceleration
For eg. when we throw something upwards against the gravitational force then the acceleration is taken to be negetive because it is opposing the motion of the object.

yes acceleration is sometimes negative
if the velocity of an object decreases then the object is said to be moving with negative acceleration .negative acceleration is known as retardation or deceleration
for eg; .a man is driving a car and suddenly he sees a dog on the road and applies brakes which reduces the velocity of the car to zero . this is negative acceleration
