yes. air can be compressed as its particles are not closely packed...

Take a bottle and make sure that it is closed. Note that, the air is still present in bottle.
When you compress the bottle, it crumples. Thus, showing that air can be compressed. Do they same with a solid present in the bottle, like ice, the same won't happen.

air can be compressed as it is a mixture gases and particles in gases are not closely packed and have a lots of space in between them, so they can be compressed very easily.
