Given Quadratic equation is ax^2 + bx + c = 0.

We know that nature of roots is dependent on discrimination = > D = b^2 - 4ac

(i) When D = 0, then the roots are real and equal.

(ii) When D < 0, then the roots are imaginary and unequal.

(iii) When D > 0, then the real and unequal.


In the given question, it is given that roots are equal.

⇒ D = 0

⇒ b^2 - 4ac = 0

⇒ b^2 = 4ac.


Therefore, the answer is b^2 = 4ac -  Option (a).
