formal letters are those which you wrote for a professional like 4 skl,4 news paper advertisements ,for complaint etc
informal are those which you wrote for your family and frndzzz etxc

The difference b/w formal letter and informal letter is that formal letter you are sending it to higher authority's or for some official work. Informal letter means that you are giving it to you loved ones like your dad mom . I hope this answer helps you
