Mass can be defined as the amount of matter which is contained in a substance. Its a scalar quantity. The S.I. unit of mass is kilogram, which is a fundamental unit that means it can be defined by any other units. As mass is a scalar quantity so it has no magnitude that's why it doesn't change with respect to the height and distance. It is same in everywhere. Sometimes, we get confused about mass and weight. But remember that mass and weight are never same. Weight is the product of mass and gravity of that place. The S.I. unit of weight is newton(N). Its a vector quantity. It changes with respect to the height and distance. Newton is a derived quantity, which can be defined by other units.
