Sessions Court: Deals with criminal cases like murder, attempt to murder, etc.,

Civils Court: Non-criminal or civil cases like land disputes, cheating cases (sec 420)

Family Court: Divorce cases

Special Courts (Meant for special purpose like 2G spectrum scam, etc.,)

High Courts: Appeals from district level courts (1-4) or direct approach through PILs, etc.,

Supreme Court: Appeals from (5) or direct approach through PILs, etc.,

Metropolitan Courts: Setup in metropolitans with the concurrence of the concerned High court and its functions are determined by the Cheif Metropolitan Magistrate

Lok Adalats: Setup as part of ADR (Alternative dispute resolution) and its judgement is final and binding and no appeal can be made to the higher courts

Tribunals (Psuedo Courts): Acts as judgement bodies but not courts. Seated by beaureaucrats instead of judges and their judgements can be appealed to the higher court. Eg: SAT , TDSAT, etc.,
