can anyone explain the mechanism of nitration of benzene???????? does nitric acid act as an base???? it is written in NCERT..........

No nitric acid does not act as base it gives OH- and benzene gives H+ and also nitric acid gives -nitro group to benzene and nitrobenzen and water are products formed called as nitration
