can anyone make me understand what is magnitude in Physics

In physics,speed is a pure scalar or something with a magnitude but no direction-such 5m/s. 5 metre per second does not tell us which way the object is moving. It gives no clue about the direction... On the other hand,velocity,in physics must be expressed as a victor with both the magnitude and the direction.
