'OA' is the constant acceleration period because the magnitude of velocity is increasing linearly with time. 'AB' is the part in which the body moves with uniform velocity of magnitude 20 m/s. 'BC' is the constant retardation period because the magnitude of velocity is decreasing linearly with time.

Acceleration = (20 - 0)/3 = 20/3 m/s²

Retardation = (20 - 0)/2 = 10 m/s²

Retardation itself conveys (from its name) that the velocity is decreasing with time.

Acceleration of 'BC' part is -10 m/s². Minus sign conveys that the velocity is decreasing with time.

Hope, it'll help you...
