The difference between the final position and initial position is called displacement. The shortest path covered by an object is the displacement of the particle.

No, displacement time sketch cannot be parallel to displacement axis. This is not possible because an object cannot covers different displacements at one time.  

But if the displacement time sketch is parallel to the time axis, it can be possible. This is because an object can have a single displacement in different times.

The displacement - time graph can never be a straight line , parallel to the displacement axis because such a line would mean that the distance covered by the body in a certain direction increases without any increase in time which is impossible
