There is so much of debate as to what predominates between instincts and wisdom. And there seems to be no end to the points that support both the views. However I strongly feel that instincts play a far more decisive role than wisdom in the day-to-day affairs of a man's life. Man appears to be instinct-dominated being. Deprive him of his instinct mechanism, he will be no more than an android, who though has so much intellect, will be considered a mere machine. Man takes all his decisions on the basis of instinctive urges and cues he receives from his instincts. For example all the inventions and discoveries in the world of science were made on the basis of instinctive inspiration and motives of the ease, comfort, security and enjoyment. The visions of the inventors were guided and directed by instincts. The contemporary world of ours is replete with proofs that confirm instincts' predominance over wisdom. The recent bank data confirms more and more number of people applying for loans for luxuries that appeal only to instincts. If man were wise he would never be ready to buy luxuries on loan and repay it with exorbitant interest rates! This further supports my argument that men/women are dominated by instincts. Wisdom is never so foolish. Undoubtedly wisdom is a far more sublime entity! I would call wisdom as refined and sublimated instincts. But the bitter reality is wisdom is very rare to be found. If wisdom were the ruler, the world would be a far better place. All the ugly and evil acts of terrorism, corruption, exploitation, injustice, crime, selfishness, etc are done under the influence of instincts only. Wisdom is the ability to control instincts, but it comes with experience and tireless striving.

We are all born with a natural instinct. Instinct is an inner sense that comes naturally when we observe something or face a situation. It is an inborn trait unique to each individual.

When we come across a situation, the first sense we get from observing it, is our instinct. The brain may register the situation but the take on such situations are done first by our instinct. An instinct is a combination of impression and a natural thought or reaction to any situation. While deciding on acting or not acting on any instinct, we use our wisdom.

Many a time, it is our instinct and not our wisdom which comes in handy to save us. For example, we may use our wisdom to be alert and follow all the rules while crossing the road. But when an unruly driver with a speeding vehicle comes towards us, we instinctively move away to safety. It is our instinct and not our wisdom that saves us then.

There are times when things may not work out the way we want. We face many circumstances which need careful handling. All such instances need our instinct or first impression on the situation to decide which way to go or act and then use our wisdom to act on it.

Many such situations in life would show that instinct comes first in any situation followed by use of one’s wisdom to do things well and right. One could hone one's instincts consciously to take full advantage of this natural gift of life.

So, ‘Instinct is stronger than wisdom’.
