In this story, two sisters Elizabeth and Amelia are depicted as uncaring and are jealous of each other, trying to outshine each other too. They predict that their father was dead and start making a list of things to be divided by themselves. They didn't care to take a look whether their father was dead or not. It could be seen as the Jordans reach the house and just started discussing with each other pretending that they were sad and faced a heavy loss on the death of their grandfather. Amelia tries to take her father's bureau and shifts it to the living room. The sisters had felt a burden to keep their father in their house. When Abel comes down to the living room, he was surprised to see the Jordans and everyone in their mourning dress. We can see everyone controlling each other to prevent their assumption to reach Abel that he was dead. But, Elizabeth reveals the secret after sometime that this was the whole drama going on and Melia and Henry were robbing his property. So Abel had decided to leave his family as they were uncaring and decided to leave his property to the person who cared for him. He decided to pay his premium insurance and marry Mrs Shorrocks on Monday as she was kind and loving to him. So, the sisters were left behind including the family in house doubtfully.
