MERCURY CANNOT DIRECTLY BE EXTRACTED FROM ITS ORE CALLED CINNABAR (HgS) By simple reduction from Carbon.

First it has to be reduced by Roasting in presence of Air

HgS + O2 --> HgO + S

after that it is reduced from Carbon

HgO + C --> Hg + CO
