Can sandmeyer's reaction be used to make phenylisocyanide?

I don't think HNC exist in normal condition . It is a tautomer of HCN and so, it quickly converts into it. HNC is found in intersteller spaces. Second thing, copper isocyanide doesn't exist IMO, though they are known as complex like copper alkyl isocyanide. Copper cyanide exist though. So, in short carbylamine reaction is the best reaction one can think of. The reaction you are thinking is just a mind-game.

No, this method will give phenylcyanide not phenylisocyanide......U can use this method....C6H5NH2+HNO2+HCl at 273K-278K=C6H5N2Cl then add Cu2Cl2(Sandmeyer Reaction) or Cu+HCl u will get chlorobenzene and then add AgCN it releases isocyanide ions and u will get phenylisocyanide..
