earthing is a type of precaution that is must
have u seen the socket pins of heavy current consuming appliances such as water heater fridge.....It have 3 pins the big one on the top is earthing pin that is put into the earthing socket....in case of short circuit or if heavy current is supplied the unnecessary current which may be dangerous is carried down to the ground with the help of earthing rod which goes from socket to the ground and prevent for major harm to the appliances

HOPE IT HELPS

Hey friend,

Here's how the earthing helps -
When earthed appliance gets short circuited, then the current from its metal body flows into the earth. Since the earth does not offer any resistance, the magnitude of the current in a circuit of a short circuited appliance suddenly rises to a very high value...
This rise in magnitude of current, overloads the circuit and hence, the fuse in that circuit melts
On melting of the fuse, the short circuited appliance will not receive any current and hence the user is protected from an electric shock...and the appliance doesn't catch fire!

Hope it helps!
