Poetic devices are tools used by the writer to create rhythm, tone, mood, feeling, and meaning. Some of the important ones to know are rhyme, repetition, meter, assonance, alliteration, onomatopoeia , metaphor, symbolism, hyperbole, irony, allusion, imagery, and personification

Personification: When we attribute human characteristics to a non-living object.

Eg. The car was Suffering.

Alliteration: When a Series of words begin with the same consonant sound.

Eg. She sells sea shells by the sea shore.

Anaphora: When there is repetition of Sequence of words in order to achieve an artistic effect.

Eg. I want my money right now, right here!

Assonance: When there is repetition of vowel sounds of words placed close to each other.

Eg. The morning was cold with a bold statement.

Repetition: When the same word or phrase is repeated few times to make the idea clear.

Eg. I want more, more, more!

Pun: It is a play on words which produce a humourous as well as a normal meaning.

Eg. It was too good on a Hot Summer Day on a beach.

Metaphor: It is an expression which directly refers to the one thing by mentioning other things for clarity.

Eg. He is a Shining Star.

Imagery: It is a group of descriptive words used to give more depth to a Particular thing.

Eg. The concert was so loud that her ears rang for days afterward.

Irony: When the actual meaning is complete opposite from the literal meaning.

Eg. The teacher fails the test.
