There are certain rules to form formulae of chemical compounds .
1-You must know the valencies of the elements which constitute the compound and criss cross their valncies .
Eg-1- Valency of Alluminium = 3
Valency of oxygen = 2
Therefore aluminium oxide = Al2O3
2-If the compound consists of a metal and non-metal , the symbol for the metal is written first .
3-If there is an ion in the compound it must be enclosed within a bracket. However if the valency of the other element combining with it is 1 then the bracket is not required !
