A potted plants, Aluminum foil, Ethyl alcohol, Iodine solution.
Procedure :
Take a potted plant and cover a part of one of its leaves with the help of Aluminium foil. Place the plant in sunlight pluck the leave after a few days and remove the aluminum from it. Take about 20 ml of ethyl alcohol in a boiling tube and dip the leaf in it. Place the boiling tube in a hot water bath. After some time, when the alcohol turns green, remove the leaf from the boiling tube. Wash the leaf with the help of warm water. Place a few drops of iodine solution on the leaf.
Observation :
Thw portion of leaf exposed to sunlight turns blue or blue black. The portion which was covered with the aluminum foil does not show any change in color.
Conclusion :
a. Leaves make starch as food by photosynthesis.
b. Sunlight is necessary for photosynthesis.
