angle OEA = 90° [AB is a Tangent to the circle]

therefore OAE is a right angle triangle

therefore,

ae ^{2}  =  {ao}^{2}  -  {oe}^{2}  \\  \:  \:   \:  \:  \:  \:  \: = {8}^{2}   -  {4}^{2}  \\ \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:   = 64 - 16 \\  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  = 48 \\ ae  \:   = 4 \sqrt{3}

Therefore AE is :

4 \sqrt{3}
