Can we check the nature of a gas by using a litmus paper

Litmus is a water-soluble mixture of different dyes extracted from lichens. It is often absorbed onto filter paper to produce one of the oldest forms of pH indicator, used to test materials for acidity. Thus Nature of gases cannot be checked using a litmus paper.

No.... Only acid can check by litmus paper..... I think..
