think it's very easy
let us take for example you are Manoj and your friend is Sunil
firstly , you are saying to your friend "can you please give me your book". so this is direct speech as you saying it directly to your friend
then, a third man watches it says to his friend that Manoj asked Sunil to give him his book. So in this what you spoke is indirectly said by another guy. so this is indirect speech.
