Stubs are the remaining part of the stems of the crops. they are left in the crop field after harvesting because they helps in preventing soil erosion as they kept holding the soil. Later in ploughing during preparation of soil for next crop, they mixed in d crop and decompose and helps in formation of humus and thus increase organic matter of the soil.
