Answer:

The earth rotates about an imaginary axis such that only one half of the earth faces the sun at any given time. This is the reason why we have day-night periodicity. Thus the brighter side is facing the sun and the other side faces away from the sun.

Carry out the following experiment to know that why earth here is showing here an Hemisphere:-

Materials Required:-

  • Plastic Ball (Earth)
  • Torch (Light source - Sun)
  • Dark room (Universe)

Procedure:-

  • In a dark room, place the ball on the ground of the room. (You can also attach a thread to the ball through adhesive gum/Fevicol.)
  • Throw light on the ball and see what happens.

Observation:-

We can see that, after throwing light on the ball, half of the ball become invisible and another half become visible. Similar is happened with Earth!

Earth is a heavenly object having a geoid shape. Since Earth revolves around the Sun, half of the part of Earth becomes invisible. Thus, the picture has shown like this. Same thing also happens with moon periodically.
