Answer:
When a word or phrase is used to compare one thing with other things and expresses the features which showed the comparison and similarity of both, to make more impactful, is called as Figurative Language. Speaking figuratively is a sort of flowery way of not saying just what you mean, quite natural in poetry and politics but absent from serious legal, scientific and philosophical discourse.
The aim of understanding the figurative language is to color and cultivate the words beautifully in content of writing as it has the power of avoiding any bad assumption or misunderstandings. In writing process, the proper and logical usage of words in sentences or paragraphs must be done, so that the readers understand fully. For e.g., He smiles flowery- this example is a metaphor, which is one of the most commonly used figure of speech.
It can be said that it describes a comparison that showed how two things are different. Figurative language can be broadly defined as way of saying something other than the ordinary ways making it more impactful. There are various important theories that depend on the thesis that figurative language specially metaphor, is somehow capable of expressing or conveying insight which the non-figurative language is incapable of expressing or conveying.
