When there is a change in the heritable characteristics of the progenies over a successive generation, it is known as Evolution.
Jean Baptiste Lamarck was the first person to give the theory of evolution. Thereafter this concept was made popular by Charles Robert Darwin in his famous book “The origin of species”. This theory that was made popular by his is known as the theory of natural selection or Darwinism.
He states that evolution takes place through the process of natural selection. He states that traits may vary with respect to the phenotype variation. The traits differentiation is what determines the rate of survival. This trait of fitness and survival is heredity. This process on the basis of which changes occur and that which is passed from generation to generation is called the evolutionary process.
