The Britishers employed Indian soldiers called sepoys in their army (above 200000 recruits) but the Indians were never given higher posts. Their posts always remained subordinate such as sepoys, darogas, and chowkidars. Also, there were not many avenues for them to get promoted. Indian employees in the British companies also did not receive a good amount of salary.
