________  \bold{Respiration} ________

Respiration is the process by which food taken through nutrition gets oxidised and release anergy for performing various activities.

It can also be defined as the process of biochemical oxidation of nutrients at cellular level.

It can be summarised as the equation below:
Food+Oxygen-->Carbon Dioxide+Water+Energy

The organic substances undergoing oxidative breakdown during respiration are called respiratory substrates.

Now, respiration is divided into two types on the basis of presence of oxygen. These are:

⏺️Aerobic Respiration
⏺️Anaerobic Respiration

☯️AEROBIC RESPIRATION:
It is the process in which large amount of energy is released in the presence of oxygen from the breakdown of food substances.

The process starts in cytoplasm and continues in the mitochondria.

☯️ANAEROBIC RESPIRATION:
It is the respiratory process in which small amount of energy is released in the absence of oxygen from the breakdown of food substances. It is termed as fermentation in microorganisms while lactic acid formation in human muscles.

It only occurs in the cytoplasm of the cell.
