Can you please Proofread this essay! Tell me if there are any problems or if I should add something to make it more fun.

I, like everyone, have faced challenges. I have faced many challenges in my life. One of those was wanting to win one of the top places of a swimming contest. I had been practicing for weeks. I could beat everyone in my class, but I was worried about the people at the other school.

I had lost against one person at a different school last year. He was the only one that could beat me. I hated that I had lost by two seconds. I had to beat him that year. He goes to this school where they have to pay to go and swimming is one of the things that they have to do. I just do it as an after school club.

I had to beat this year's competition. I did laps every two days and practiced my strokes. I had to become faster and I brought my brother to time me. I had to get at least 2 seconds better than my time in last year's race. I became faster and sped up by 4.2 seconds. That was after three weeks. I got better and got up to 5.7 seconds better. One of my friends goes to the school that the guy that won went to. He said that he is also practicing, but he got his time up by about 2 seconds.
On the day of the competition both of my parents, all of my teachers, students, even the principal was there. My parents were in the front row ready to cheer me on. I needed to win since almost everyone was there that year.

When my turn was up I went to the side of the pool that I was going to start. The guy I had to beat already went he got 3.3 seconds better than his time the year before. When they said go I pushed off of the board and started to swim. We were supposed to do 4 laps so two relays. I would hear applauding right before I jumped in and that helped motivate me to go for the finishing line as fast as I can.

I was on my last lap when I was starting to get tired. I was probably 6 feet away from the end. All I had to do was just touch the wall then it would be done. As I touched the wall I just instantly looked at the screen without thinking. It took me a few seconds but then I realized that I did 0.6 seconds better than the other guy. I had to know to wait for the rest of the swimmers to finish.

By the end of the competition, my name was at the top of the screen. I was so proud of myself. I got a trophy for the school and got a picture with the principle. They now keep the trophy in the main hall of the school. That night we went out to dinner.
