No, I don't totally agree with the statement that 'visible movements are the defining characteristics of life.'
This is because, some organisms are said to be living though they don't show any visible movements. For instance, the best example that can be taken are plants. Plants are regarded as living organisms though they don't show any visible movements. Instead there changes and movements taking place inside them.

So I conclude that, "Both visible and internal movements are the defining characteristics of life."
