In the first equation , 3x2+2x+a=0

(a=3, b=2,c=a)

D=b2- 4ac

=(2)2-4*3*a

=4-12a

In the second equation, x2-4x+2=0

(a=1, b=-4,c=2)

D=b2- 4ac

=(-4)2-4*1*2

=16-8

=8

It is given that discriminant of 3x2+2x+a=0 = double discriminant of x2-4x+2=0.

So, 4-12a=(2)8

4 -12a=16

-12a=16-4

-12a=12

a=-12/12

Therefore, a=-1.

option d
