Can you use a merge field in the subject box of an email message?

I think No because merge are usually used in ms excel or other same type of MS.

Actually you cannot used a merge field in a email because of the reason that it is not a function available in mail it's used in the MS programs. However if you really want to do it you can make use of the function of " outlook object model" or the similar techniques like that .but This is difficult to understand you have to learn it.
