Tungsten(alloy of tin and lead) is used to make fuse wire.Yes, you can use metallic wire but tungsten has highest melting point.

But not any metallic wire because metal like copper and gold have high melting point. Therefore they can't work like fuse wire.

If like please thank my answer

Fuse elements of fast acting fuses and HV fuses are primarily made of silver (Ag). Silver plated copper is also commonly used. As a rule, fuse elements of time delay fuses contain low melting point materials, e.g. tin (Sn) or zinc (Zn) and alloys there of.

Hope this will help you!!!
