The question here is incomplete and I have explained of the important technique used to find Refractive index of a liquid.
Refractive index of most of the liquids are found using Michelsons interferometry.
Explanation:
In Michelsons Interferometry, light from the source is incident on beam splitter and mirrors are arranged as shown in attachment to change the optical path length of light from the source. Based on this, due to the optical path difference between the two beams from 50% beam splitter the refractive index can be found.
In volatile liquid case the path light travels in volatile liquid medium changes by a factor of refractive index of volatile liquid.
