In case of open ended class intervals, it cannot be calculated without assuming the size of the open end classes.

Mean can not be calculated.

  • It is one of the measures of central tendency.
  • It is calculated as - Mean = sum of observations/Total number of observations.
  • In such a series the intervals are missing, whereas in the case of mean there are no such intervals.
  • Thus, it cannot be calculated in case of open end class distribution
  • It is one of the demerits of mean.
