The reaction between calcium oxide (CaO) and water (H2O) to form calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)2 is an exothermic combination reaction.

This is because: Calcium oxide reacts with water to form slaked lime Ca(OH)2 which means the oxides of calcium combine with molecules of free molecules of O- and H+

This reaction generates a lot of heat accompanied with hissing sound and thus is stated to be exothermic.

Hope it helps

CaO + H2O=Ca(OH)2
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CaO = calcium oxide

H2O = water

Now,
CaO + H2O = Ca(OH)2

Ca(OH)2 = exothermic combination reaction.

1) In this process, Calcium oxide reacts with water to form Ca(OH)2

2) Due to this reaction, a large amount of heat is generated.
