Carbohydrates are present in the plasmalemma in the form of d) Glycoprotein.

Glycoprotein is also present in the form of glycolipids. The structure of glycoproteins has 8 monosaccharides. Glycoproteins are ‘lectins’, ‘mucins’, and ‘several polypeptide hormones’.

Glycoproteins aid in a cell to cell interactions. Glycolipids’ function is to make the cell membrane stability and to enable recognition of cells. This is necessary for good immunity and for better tissue formation by the cell to cell adherence. Carbohydrates are an integral and important part of cell membranes.
