Carbon dioxide can behave like an oxidizing agent,where it oxidizes magnesium to form MgO(s):
Mg(s) + 1212CO22 →→ MgO(s) + 1212C(s)
Mg(s) + 1212CO22 →→ MgO(s) + 1212C(s)
