Carbon dioxide is passed through blue litmus solution it turns into red litmus solution.

- Carbon dioxide is a very weak acid which is not enough for changing colour of the normal litmus.

- But if we take litmus solution (litmus + water),then the carbon dioxide will produce carbonic acid by reacting with the water.

CO2 + H2O = H2CO3

- This carbonic acid is much acidic than carbon dioxide and that's why this carbonic acid turns the blue litmus solution into red litmus solution.
