the carbon dioxide is the raw material for photosynthesis. Then plant takes up CO2, water, sunlight and some amount of Nitrogen from the atmosphere directly and indirectly. After taking all the raw materials the plant starts its food/ glucose making process by breaking down the molecules of water and some other by converting energy from sunlight into sugar in a process called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis uses energy from light to convert water and carbon dioxide molecules into glucose (sugar molecule) and oxygen.
