Due to the presence of four valance electrons in carbon, it is not able to gain four electrons or lose four electrons to attain noble gas configuration. Therefore, carbon shares electrons to form covalent bonds or compounds. Carbon shares electrons and formed covalent bond.

Example: CH₄(methane).
