it form covalent compound because carbon is a non metal and non metal react with non metal to form covalent compound.

covelent compounds can be formed because it has four electrons in its outermost shell.

it has to loose or gain four electrons to gain the nearest noble gas configuration.

if it gains four electrons so it would be difficult for its six proton to have ten electrons.

and to loose four electrons it would require lot of energy.
