would reject this proposal based on the research on subliminal perception. Research indicates that subliminal visual stimuli will influence feelings, but not behavior. An experiment when subjects were shown either positive or negative images subliminally before being asked to rate pictures, did influence their picture rating. How ever no research has shown that subliminal effects last long enough to influence behavior like shopping. The 1956 research study that claimed subliminal messaging worked in a movie theater, influencing moviegoers to by more popcorn was a hoax. The CBC research on subliminal messaging (Call How) showed no effect on behavior. I would recommend instead supraliminal (consciously perceivable) messages warning shoppers against shoplifting.
