Given :

New weekly wage of Carol after a decrease of 10 % = $ 306

To Find :

Her weekly wage if she had received a 10 % increase instead of 10% decrease = ?

Solution :

Let the previous weekly wage ( i.e. before increase or decrease ) be x .

So for the 1st case i.e. for 10 % decrease we have :

x - \frac{x}{10} = 306

Or, \frac{9x}{10}= 306

Or, 9x = 3060

Or x = 340

So, the initial weekly wage was $ 340 , now using this for the 2nd case i.e. for 10 % increase we can find her weekly wage after 10 % increase as :

= x + \frac{x}{10}

=\frac{11x}{10}

On substituting the value of x i.e. value of initial wage we have :

= \frac{11\times 340}{10}

= 374

Hence , instead of decrease of 10% pay if her weekly wage is increased by 10 % pay , then her new weekly wage will be $374
