Given"cash paid to Hema"
This entry affects two accounts...Cash a/c(mode of payment) and Hema a/c(paying to Hema/Hema is receiving)
Cash a/c is a real account (all the assets and liabilities come under real account)
Hema a/c Is a personalaccount(as the name suggests)
The Three golden rules of accounting..
Personal account - Debit the receiver, credit the giver
Real Account - Debit what comes in, credit what goes out..
Nominal account - Debit All expenses and losses.. credit all incomes and gains...
In contention with the above rules..Cash a/c should be credited..since it is going out...Hema a/c should be debited..being at the receiving end..
The Journal Entry will be...
Hema a/c Dr xxxx
To Cash a/c. xxxx
(being cash paid to Hema)
