what weight of water is needed to make CaSO₄ 2H₂O if 100g of CaSO₄ has taken.

solution : given mass of CaSO₄ = 100g

molar mass of CaSO₄ = 136 g/mol

so no of moles of CaSO₄ = 100/136 = 0.73 mol

here you see, in CaSO₄.2H₂O , one mole of CaSO₄ joined with two moles of water.

so, 0.73 mol of CaSO₄ will join 0.73 × 2 = 1.46 moles of water.

now mass of water = no of moles of water × molar mass of water

= 1.46 mol × 18g/mol

= 26.28 g

Therefore the mass of water is needed to make CaSO₄ 2H₂O is 26.28g
