Answer- The above question is from the chapter 'Cell-The Fundamental Unit of Life'.

Given question: Categorise the cells on the basic of presence or absence of nuclear membrane? Give three important differences and two example of each.

Answer: On the basis of presence or absence of nuclear membrane, cells can be divided into two categories:-

1. Prokaryotic cells:- i) Organisms having prokaryotic cells i.e. cells having

nucleus in an unorganized way without nuclear membrane, are called

prokaryotes.

ii) These cells are usually smaller in size i.e. size of prokaryotic cell varies from 1 to 10 μm

iii) These cells are less evolved and primitive.

Example of Prokaryotes are:-

1. Bacteria

2. Blue Green Algae

2. Eukaryotic cells:- i) Organisms having eukaryotic cells i.e. cells having

nucleus in an organized way with nuclear membrane, are called eukaryotes.

ii) These cells are usually larger in size i.e. size of eukaryotic cell varies from 5 to 100 μm.

iii) These cells are more evolved.

Example of Eukaryotes are:-

All organisms except blue green algae and bacteria, like humans and animals.

More difference:

In prokaryotic cells, membrane bound organelles are absent while in eukaryotic cells, these membrane bound organelles are present.
