Catenation is defined as the ability of an atom to join with the other atoms of the same element and form long chains, be it straight, branched or cyclic. Carbon is the element which shows the maximum catenation property. In other words, valency of each carbon atom can be satisfied by combining with other carbon atoms.

\huge\textbf{Catenation :}

Catenation is the self-linking property of carbon. In this carbon has ability to form a long chain-like, ring, branch structure via a series of covalent bonds.

Carbon shows the maximum Catenation property.

\huge\textbf{Tetravalency :}

Tetera valency is the ability of carbon to combine with other mono valent or with atoms of other elements like N, H etc.

In this C (carbon) forms four covalent bonds.
