causes of friction kinds of friction ??
Answers
Answer:
Friction is a force that resists the relative motion between two objects or materials. The causes of this resistive force are molecular adhesion, surface roughness, and deformations. Adhesion is the molecular force resulting when two materials are brought into close contact with each other.
Types Of Friction
Following are the friction types which depend on the types of motion:
1)Static Friction
2)Sliding Friction
3)Rolling Friction
4)Fluid Friction
Static, sliding, and rolling friction occur between solid surfaces. Static friction is strongest, followed by sliding friction, and then rolling friction, which is weakest. Fluid friction occurs in fluids, which are liquids or gases.
Friction is caused by the interlocking of irregularities of the two surface when one object is placed over another object. If the two surface is of object are pressed together harder by a greater force, than the friction will increase. The friction between two surface depends on the surface with which the two surfaces are pressed together. In general, greater the weight, of an object which moves over another surface, greater will be the friction between them.
There are five types of friction
- Static Friction
- Limiting Friction
- Kinetic Friction
- Sliding Friction
- Rolling Friction
Static Friction
The opposing force that comes into action when one body tends to move or slide over the surface of the other object, but the actual motion has not started is called static friction.
Limiting Friction
The maximum value of static friction that develops on an object when the object just tends to move over slide over the surface of another object is called limiting friction.
Kinetic Friction
Kinetic Friction is the opposing force that comes into play when one body is actual moving over the surface of another body. There are two types of kinetic friction sliding friction and rolling friction.
Sliding Friction
The fictional force present when one object slides slowly over the surface of another object is known as sliding friction.
Rolling Friction
The opposing force that comes into play when the body is actually rolling over the surface of another body is called rolling friction.
Additional informatioN :-
The force of friction can be measured with the help of a spring balance. The spring balance consists of a coiled spring that scratches when a force is applied on it. The reading of pointer on the graduated scale give the magnitude of the force.
