CCl4 doesn’t undergo hydrolysis because of the absence of vacant d-orbitals.
But in SiCl4 silicon has vacant d-orbitals which can be used for hydrolysis. Hence SiCl4 can undergo hydrolysis.

Hey dear,
● Explanation -
- C & Si both are group 14 elements.
- C atom has small atomic size and thus CCl4 becomes a crowded molecule but Si is a bigger atom and thus SiCl4 is vulnerable for attacks.
- Also Si has an extra 3d-orbital which can share electrons from oxygen but C has no such privilege.
- Therefore, SiCl4 undergoes hydrolysis CCl4 dont.
Hope this helps you..
